On Tuesday, a Florida House Republican introduced legislation that would change gun laws, including allowing people to openly carry firearms.
Rep. Mike Beltran, R-Riverview, filed the bill (HB 1619) after lawmakers dropped the requirement for people to have concealed-weapons licenses to carry guns last year.
However, some Second Amendment advocates urged the Legislature to go further and allow people to carry firearms openly.
Beltran filed his bill on the first day of the 2024 legislative session.
Other proposed changes to the bill include allowing lawmakers to bring concealed firearms to legislative meetings and the state Capitol complex.
